Not So Mellow Yellow

Wow, I just realized that I have MANY outfit posts that I have not posted yet.  I guess this is a good thing since the past couple of weeks I haven't taken any pictures LOL!

It's been a busy few weeks and more busy weeks ahead.  I'm looking forward to the Toronto Petite Bloggers (Petite Toronto Bloggers?) meetup happening this weekend!!  I'm sure there will be many posts about this one ;)

The next few posts will be outfits from BEFORE I got my hair done recently.  You'd think I'd want to be showing off my new hair in all my posts right?  Well...the problem is that I've had less time to blog because I have to spend time straightening my hair!!!!  I know, priorities, right? :P

Anyway, here is an outfit that I had been meaning to share because it's probably one of the only times that I wore my bright yellow coat from this post.  I think this is another contender for the Color Brigade, no?

Coat: Old Navy XS
Skirt:  Suzy Shier size 0

I think I can still wear this coat in the spring when it's a bit cool out.  I don't wear this coat as much as I would like to as I will explain later....

Top:  mark by Avon
Jewellery:  Avon (similar statement necklace) (earrings here)
Tights:  can't remember!

And with the jacket off:

What unfortunately didn't work for me was that this skirt kept on sticking to my tights!  I didn't have this problem when I wore this skirt in the summer with bare legs.

The earrings match the necklace I wore in this post.

And here is a detailed shot of the necklace I wore:

I received a lot of compliments on this outfit especially the yellow coat.  But...my husband HATES it LOL!  We went to the auto show a couple weeks ago and I said I wanted to wear my yellow coat so that he could see me if I got lost (he says I always disappear in the crowd since I'm so small ;) ) but he refused to go out with me wearing it :P  I was kind of miffed, but changed anyway.  So is there an article of clothing that your significant other or your friends loathe?

H&M Pencil Skirt

I didn't do too much shopping over the holidays - I think I wasn't really looking for anything in particular and I didn't feel like fighting the boxing day / week crowds.

I did manage to pick up this skirt from H&M though; I had been looking for a grey pencil skirt for a while.  I think grey just goes with more items in my wardrobe.  It's not as harsh as black and much easier to work with than brown in my opinion.

Since my work environment is really casual I thought about how I would dress it down a bit and so I paired this skirt with some really casual pieces.

Skirt:  H&M size 4
Top:  Old Navy XS
Cardigan:  Gap XS seen in this post  (yes I'm wearing it AGAIN!)

The top I'm wearing is essentially like long john material :P  It's such a comfy shirt I feel like I could sleep in it.  Here is what it looks like with the cardigan undone.

I took the belt off that came with it since I had planned on keeping the cardigan closed the whole time anyway.  Here is a close up of the pattern of the skirt.

Overall I really like this skirt.  It's fully lined and I think the quality is really good especially for H&M.  I didn't get this skirt on sale, I paid $39.95 Canadian.  But I have been searching for a grey skirt for a while now.  The fit of the skirt reminds me of another H&M skirt I have - the black lace one that many other petite bloggers have.   I have worn the lace skirt several times already and have yet to take a picture!

My one pet peeve with this skirt that I noticed throughout the day that the lining kept peaking through when I sat down and sometimes when I stood up if I didn't readjust the skirt.  I wonder if hemming just the lining a smidge would help at all.  Thoughts?

And I wore my Christmas present from my husband - my single Tahitian pearl necklace :D  <3

Has anyone else seen this skirt at H&M?  I saw it in black and an orangy red colour as well.  I think the size 2 would fit a lot smaller petites well.

Sponge Bob Skinny Jeans!

LOL I'll explain the post title later.

As I mentioned I've been doing quite a bit on online shopping lately (my poor, poor credit cards eeek!)

Anyway, the other day I received notice of a 3 day sale for 50% one piece of outerwear from Old Navy and through some coupon forums such as Bargain Moose and Smart Canucks (LOL sooooo Canadian!) I found out that an online code, LOULOU15 from Canadian Magazine Lou Lou for 15% was stackable.  I hurried myself over to the website and found that the ruffle wool jackets were on sale for $29!!  I was able to use both codes and got the coat for $12.33!!!!!!    So that's the good news.  The BAD news is that a couple hours later when my friend wanted to buy a coat the price was back up to the full price of $99.50.  NOT COOL.   But I guess I scored a good deal.

Here is the coat (and you'll get the title of my blog post)

Coat:  Old Navy Ruffle-Collar Wool Blend Jacket in XS (buy here or here)
Available in Petite on the US site in limited colours

When I came down to show my husband he exclaimed "hey there sponge bob" LOL!  and I told my friend O who added the line "skinny jeans" :P

I know it's super bright, but I like it!!   Do you think I could pull it off?   I was thinking of exchanging it  for this colour.  Or maybe just returning it all together.  But I figured for $12.33 I couldn't pass up getting a fun coloured jacket :) What are your thoughts?

I ordered a few other items as well to fulfill the requirement for free shipping over $50.

Old Navy Waffle-Knit Scoop Neck Tee (find it here - can't seem to find it on the US site)

I LOVE this shirt!   It is seriously so comfortable and I think I could wear this with just about anything.  I love the fit too I don't mind that the sleeves are a bit long - it adds to the coziness I feel in it :)   And it might be a little long for some other petite but I like the length.  I got this top for $10.20 after the Lou Lou discount.

I also picked up this cute little vest:

Linen-blend Open Front Vest in XS (find it here - out of stock on the US site!)

I just love the back it's so cute!  I picked this up for $12.74 after the discount.

Lastly, I got this skirt which I'm very unsure about:

Cord mini size 0 - on the US site here sold on the Canadian site but similar here

It really is quite short so I can see why there isn't a petite length available LOL!  I'm a taller petite though, for reference about 5'1" and 3/4".

I think it's really cute, but I'm not sure how much wear I would get out of it.  Suggestions would be helpful!

Phew!!!  That was a crazy haul!  All in all, pretty happy with the sizing from Old Navy MUCH better fit than seen in my last review featuring Banana Republic items.

Gap Review part 1

Last weekend Gap had a one day 40% off all regular priced items and I was able to find a bunch of stuff and use my Groupon Coupon.  I didn't have time to try anything on in the store so I tried everything at home and took pictures while I was at it.  Unfortunately as I was taking pictures my camera battery died and I couldn't locate the charger so I will have to break this review up in 2 parts.

Here's part 1.

First, I bought the Really Skinny pants as reviewed by Cher.

I bought them in both 0 and 00 regular (no petite sizing in Canada!) but I'm wearing the 0 here.

These felt too tight on me.   I guess the Gap legging jeans that I have in 00 have a lot more stretch to them than these.  I didn't bother trying the 00's on.

Verdict:  return - I'm just not comfortable in them (so sad b/c they look FABULOUS on Cher)

Next up were the Perfect Boot Cords in 00:

(obviously I have to hem them LOL!)

I liked the fit on these - they seemed to fit PERFECTLY though so I don't know if I should size up for more comfort.   I haven't bought a pair of cords in a really long time.  I really like the casual Fall look of them.   Do cords generally stretch as you wear them throughout the day?

Verdict:  might try on a size up

Next I tried on The Ruffle Bib dress in 0 (smallest size!) which looks COMPLETELY different on me than in the stock photo:

LOL the belt on the dress is at my actual waist - on the model it's low on her hips!

If you follow me on twitter I asked if the arm holes were to big and the unanimous answer was YES!

I'm so sad though because other than the arm holes this dress fit pretty well!  AND it has POCKETS!

Verdict:  unsure...can I make it work?  Can you guys vote on it? LOL

I had another find from that day and I also placed a few online orders with Banana Republic and Old Navy so those reviews to come another day.

OOTD: Work Wear - Banana Republic Dress

Wow this week has flown by for me, it's been so busy!  I guess that's a good thing but I just wish I had more TIME!

This is an outfit from sometime during the work week - can't even remember when LOL!

You will recognize it from this post when I purchased items from Extra Petite's blog sale.

Dress:  Banana Republic 00P
Sweater:  Old Navy XS
Earrings and Necklace:  Avon
Shoes: Liz Claiborne size 7

Hahaha, as you can see I'm experimenting with the camera and the pictures are bit washed out and oops, I cut my head off!

Closes Monday October 18th!

OOTD: Leopard print

I keep hearing about how animal prints are huge for this Fall - for many this is exciting - not so much for me!  I don't know why but I've never been attracted to animal prints.  I think they look AMAZING on other people and am so envious of how they manage to make it work.  Maybe it just doesn't suit my personality?  I do have a pair of Leopard-ish print shoes (another post) but that's all I owned.  Until I came across this blazer that is.

Jeans:  Gap Legging Jeans size 00 (yes, I'm wearing these a lot!)
Tank Top:  Old Navy (find it online here)
Blazer:  H&M size 2
Necklace: Avon

I was first drawn to this blazer because of the all the feminine details.  The puffed shoulders and the pleating at the bottom, then I saw the lining!

Not what I'm normally drawn to but I thought this was the right way for me to incorporate some animal print until I get braver ;)

Here's the sleeves rolled down - a little long.

Back view:

Close up of pleats in the front:

I LOVE the colour of the tank top and the pretty ruffles!

And here's a close up of my necklace (husband calls them my string of grapes LOL):

Anyone else afraid of animal prints like me?

OOTD: A (new) typical work outfit

I'm calling this a new typical work outfit because it's not something I had ever worn together before but it makes a great typical work outfit for me!  It was actually inspired by Kelly at Alterations Needed when she "deconstructed" her go-to outfit.  I loved this idea of breaking an outfit down into elements.  I don't know about you, but I don't have a lot of vision when it comes to putting together an outfit.  When I see something I immediate know if I'm drawn to it but often times the vision I see in my own head does not work out so well when I'm standing in front of a mirror!  I appreciated Kelly breaking it down a bit so I could see why it worked and instead of copying the look exactly, figuring out which elements I had in my own closet to pull off the overall look.

This is what I came up with:

Jeans:  Banana Republic Trouser Jean size 0P
Blouse:  Mexx XS
Cardigan:  Old Navy XS (in Canadian stores, not online - and disappeared from the US site!  But THIS is similar)
Belt - Danier XS
Necklace:  mark by Avon

Kelly had 4 basic guidelines I was trying to follow:
1) A fun top.  I don't have too many of those so I just went with an "interesting" top with the pattern and added the bold necklace.
2) 1/2 buttoned cardigan to give an "x-shape".  I did this but the cardigan itself is a little boxy and I don't have a really defined waist so to add further emphasis I added the belt.
3) Dark Denim.  Check
4) 3/4 sleeves.  Check

I also like the flower embellishment on the cardigan to add more elements of "fun" to the look ;)

So...how did I do?

Also....don't forget to enter the giveaway from Lisa of respect the shoes.

She's giving away a beautiful Anthropologie necklace to celebrate her 200th post (WOW!!!).
